CAN ANYONE STOP NEWLYN EAST RANGERS? HIGHLIGHTS OF GAMES 5-8 Group 1: Craven are still
top, despite a home defeat, but Byron manager Richard French will be biting his
nails to the end, as his team are in 3rd place. P46's Holston Utd could take one
of the automatic slots to the next round after defeating the leaders in match 7.
Cobholm are now out of the running after some very poor performances. Group 3: Comedians are rock bottom without a point and without a goal! Stamford are top with maximum points this turn and Cascarino's Gunners have crept into 2nd. Venston and Tyneside saw out a 0-0 draw in match 7, which sums up their campaigns so far. Carnwath Hibs have been even more disappointing. Group 4: Boys From Brazil are still top and still undefeated and will qualify, but the battle for 2nd place is hotting up, as Plymouth Pilgrims frantically fight off AFC Hawkwell from P11, after crashing in match 8. Spurs Ultra did pull off a shock victory at Plymouth, but will be disappointed at putting up a bad show. Div 2 team, Thrashers Utd, from P34, are still doing very well and pulled off a great victory home to Spurs. Group 5: Sporting Club finally get going but 4th place will not be good enough for the current Apex Champs, but it's as you were at the top end of the table, with both Dynamo Hotspur and Pro-Wanderers set to qualify. Merlin still have an outside chance, but it's not looking good. Group 6: All the top 4 have a great chance to qualify still, and Roding have a lot to celebrate after registering a great win against top team Huddersfield, who have been taunting them recently. Golden Boys, yet another team managed by top boss Richard French, went on a goal spree, but still find themselves in 3rd place! Melrose Maulers had a much better set of performances, but Bray are nowhere! Group 7: Newlyn East continue in rampant form and have maximum points, and Atlantis Old Boys have also already qualified with some great victories this turn. Knightwood's defence had a nightmare and now languish in 4th place, after letting in 5 against New Brompton. Group 8: Still very tight in this group, same kind of positioning as last turn, top 4 are fighting it out, Diamonds in top spot, whilst Portsmouth, Owls and Bootsville are the draw experts. Medford managed their first win in match 8, sensationally defeating the leaders. Group 9: LFC Continental and Bethnal Green have both done enough to qualify, the rest of the teams proving to be very disappointing. Goals very hard to come by in this group! Group 10: Again, not many goals here, and a turnaround in fortunes, as early leaders Rochdale slip to 3rd place, wouldn't like to predict which teams will qualify. Crusader Aces are currently top, with Sporting Utd of P26 in 2nd. Aberhibs in 4th, but very much still in the hunt for top spot! Chester and Yokohama still to win a match. Group 11: Chalvey defeat both Bethshan and Extrusioneers to climb to 4th place and move within 3 points of a top two finish! Extrusioneers are now in 3rd, as Brazilian Flamengoes now lead the group. Ram Raiders are well-placed in 2nd, but Bethshan continue their dismal form, despite inflicting a defeat to Ram raiders away from home. Group 12: It's as you were in this group, but Palace Rangers have a lot to do now if they are to end up in the top 2. Boro Sharks and Ecstacy are now totally out of it. Exiles are still unbeaten but are finding it very difficult to score and this could see them going out of the competition. Group 13: Same here, as you were, same positions as after match 4. Wibsey must now be out of the reckoning, another team who just can't score! The manager will be very disappointed. SECTION "B" Group 14: Stockwell have qualified, although they dropped some points and conceded a goal, but what a change of form for the 2nd-placed team, Frome Road, who were rock bottom last time! But there's more, folks, because Red Rum have also made a miraculous recovery and are now in 4th place with every chance of qualifying. But it's the giants of P5 who have lost the plot as they crash to 4 successive defeats and will probably bow out. Group 15: Just as we said last time, this group is real close! Dover Bombers are now top, Red Devils 2nd and Summerhill 3rd. Molly Bads are still in the hunt, though, and it could be all change next turn, as well. Group 16: Inter Norwich have qualified easily, whilst Twemlow and Arbroath battle it out for 2nd spot. Group 17: Falcon have qualified as expected, and Castle look set to join them. Chelsea W from P16 have played superbly this turn to move up to 3rd place and an outside chance of qualifying, but Pilgrims disappointed and are now in 4th spot and as good as out. Group 18: AFC Wembley still to win, and Bald Eagles climb to 2nd place and look good to qualify. Staff's Bombers are proving to be unstoppable and must be one of the favourites to win this competition. The 2nd qualifying place is very much up for grabs, as Gosport and AC Sentini are still in the hunt. Group 19: Byron Park of P3 explode, and finally jetison manager Richard French's team to the top of the table, leaving qualification a formality, but last turn's leaders, Broxi Blues, have a lot to do, as they are now in 3rd place. Cross End have improved, as we thought, and have an outside chance to make it to the next stage. Group 20: Muckamore and Gorgon have both qualified and look very powerful with mean defences, conceding only a goal apiece. Burgh Rovers are in 3rd and have done extremely well. Landaff are languishing in 5th place, although they did manage to win a match. Group 21: Dark Forces still top and have qualified. Buckfast and Porchfield slug it out for 2nd spot, whilst Solent and Greenham City only have an outside chance now to progress further. Group 22: Witfield now find themselves in 3rd place, after suffering a defeat at the hands of the new leaders, Red Devils Utd. Canterbury are 2nd after clocking up 3 wins, but Southill and Gillingham say goodbye. Group 23: Swanscombe hit a better gear this turn, but will bow out , as Tudor qualify, with Nasty Dragons set to join them, needing a mere point next time. Gosport, also, were not good enough, despite a couple of wins. Group 24: As predicted, Barfelona and Buckrose cruise into the next round and St Martins have done well to end up in 3rd place. Not a lot of goals about, though, in this group, and we can't see the Apex Champs here. Group 25: JL Allstars continue to shine with max points again and qualify with ease. Rowner and Dunadry are the next best, but a very poor show from them both, with only 11 points each. Anfield Ath in 5th have an outside chance to make it through, but we doubt it will happen. Group 26: Div 3 team, Avalanche, sneak another point, as lots of goals go crashing in! Anfield Aces are still top, even though they dropped a point and a goal against Spartak County, who are now 2nd, after scoring another hatful of goals. Yeovil Green are pushing Spartak close, and even Newton Heath will be dreaming of a possible outing in the next round. Match reports and teamsheets will be depatched over the next 10 days and the deadline for games 9 + 10 is TUE 16TH OCTOBER HIGHLIGHTS OF FIRST 4 GAMES DISASTER FOR S.C.COMBER! SECTION "B" RESULTS NOW IN - SEE BELOW Group 1: Craven Aces of
P34 are the early leaders by defeating hot favourites Byron Park from P61, who
are in 2nd place, but plenty to play for yet in a very tight group, with Holston
Utd and Cobholm still very much in the running for a top 2 spot, although Cart
Blades and Porth Quins have nothing to shout about with only a point between
them. Group 3: Tyneside from P52 are top, a point ahead of Stamford Rangers from P11, with Treble-Winners from P27, Cascarino's Gunners, in 3rd place. Venston have lost 2 already, but could still make the top 2, but it's going to be tough, especially after conceding 4 against the Gunners, same goes for Carnwath, who let in 3 against Tyneside. Group 4: Treble-Winners of P43, Boys From Brazil are top, a point ahead of Plymouth Pilgrims of P29, thanks to a 1-0 win in Match 4. AFC Hawkwell and Spurs Ultra have a lot to do in the next round of games, perhaps too much, especially Spurs, who have yet to score a goal. Thrashers Utd are bottom with only a point. Group 5: Dynamo Hotspur and Pro-Wanderers both have 9 points each, with High Green Blades in 3rd place, despite losing twice. Merlin are still finding the going tough in the Champions League, but could still qualify for the next round if they can turn draws into wins. Red Star Celtic from P16 are doing quite well with 4 points, but the biggest bombshell is that the current Champions of Apex, Sporting Club Comber, look dead and buried already, bottom of this group with only 1 point! The new manager has made a disastrous start! Group 6: Huddersfield Terriers are top with 10 points, with a great 3 points lead over Plymouth Raiders, followed by Roding Rovers and Golden Boys close behind. Bray Murders have yet to win, whilst Melrose are pointless, after Golden Boys put 5 past them in Match 4 in front of their own fans! Group 7: Newlyn East have maximum points and are in rampant form, blitzing every team in sight, as good as qualified. Atlantis Old Boys and Knightwood are competing for the 2nd spot, with New Brompton probably going to end up 4th. Selson Aztecs and Miloli Ce only have a point each. Group 8: Top 3 all unbeaten in a very tight group indeed, wouldn't like to say who will qualify, with Diamonds, Concorde Crackpots and Owls Utd looking tough to break down. Portsmouth and Bootsville can still turn it around, with 3 draws apiece, but they need to win, whilst Medford only have 1 point. Group 9: Sweet Chin Music, early pacesetters in P16 this season, are languishing in bottom place, whilst LFC Continental look determined to bring back the heady glory days, as they top this group, a point clear of Bethnal Green from P27. Carnwath are 3rd and Stamford Blues in 4th. Eccles Palace from P34 are struggling in 5th place. Group 10: Rochdale Rovers are doing P16 proud, as they are the surprise leaders, with a resolute defence, already 2 points ahead of Crusader Aces, 5 in front of Aberhibs and hotly-fancied Sporting Utd. AFC Chester, yet to win, are in 5th and were defeated heavily by Crusader Aces in Match 2. Group 11: Extrusioneers had 5 put past them by Ram Raiders in Match 4, but are the early runners in a very tough group. Ram Raiders could now go on to win the group if they keep that kind of form up. Bethshan Celtic are having a difficult time, only 4 points, but could still make it if things improve next time round. S.S Calcio are doing well, with 3 points, but Chalvey will be disappointed by occupying the bottom spot. Group 12: Another tight group, only 5 points separating top from bottom. Taynuilt Tigers are currently top, with Torbay 2nd. Exiles should be doing better in 3rd place, and could well do that next time. Boro Sharks, Palace Rangers and Ecstacy all still have a good chance to change things if draws can be changed into wins. Group 13: Dariolanders are the early pacesetters, 3 points clear of AC Ajax Villa, a very good team from P27. Wibsey of P56 have 5 points, finding it difficult to find the net. Newhall Netbusters are doing quite well in a tough group for them, having secured 4 points already, but The Elite are bottom, without a win. SECTION "B" Group 14: Stockwell Rovers of P31, who only entered the Champions League at the last minute, have maximum points, without conceding a goal, 5 points clear of nearest rivals, Rush Green from P5, who hit a goal bonanza against Red Rum Rovers, before going down against P16 Div 2 team, Glorious Celts, a massive shock, which could cost the giants of P5 a slot in the knockout cup stage later. Previous winners, Chatham Town of P19, are faring even worse by their high standards, with only 5 points, including a home defeat against the runaway leaders. Glorious Celts are doing superbly for a team of their standard, whereas Red Rum Rovers are finding it incredibly tough, having lost 3 games already, but it's Frome Road of P1 who are currently bottom. Group 15: Summerhill are top, despite opening with a defeat, but they have played 3 home games already, and Dover Bombers could top the group next time. Red Devils are also doing well and Molly Bads of P21 are still in contention with 6 points, but it's a case of everyone beating everyone in this group, too close to predict what the final standings will be. Group 16: Inter Norwich, the eternal bridesmaids of P3, are proving way too strong for the other teams and have maximum points without conceding a goal, including a 4-0 thrashing of Arbroath, the team in 2nd-place. With Twemlow Dynamos already beaten by Inter at Twemlow, Inter have nothing to worry about. Twemlow, however, will hope to do a lot better and look as if they are improving after opening with 2 defeats. Annagh, strugglers in P16, are holding their own and have a chance of ending up third, whilst JL Superstars from P5 Div 2 have 2 points. Group 17: Falcon PF Allstars have begun in awesome fashion, hitting 4's and 5's effortlessly and are coasting with maximum points. Definitely one of the favourites now to actually win the whole Championships, they are getting better and better. Castle Athletic of P31 are 2nd, despite a mauling from Falcon in the 4th match, but how will this affect them, with Pilgrims City in 3rd place on their backs? We reckon Castle will recover. Chelsea Wanderers, yet another team from P16 Div 2 are doing very well with 6 points already and have a great chance of ending up in 3rd place. Group 18: Premier 21 big boys, Staff's Bombers are dominating proceedings with 12 points, 5 points clear of nearest rivals Gosport Cavaliers, but the surprise package are A.C Sentini, recently promoted to Div 2 of P26, unbeaten with 6 points and in 3rd place. Gosport, beware! AFC Wembley from P31 Div 2 are in 5th, after suffering a 4-0 drubbing from the Bombers! Group 19: P21 rule OK! Broxi Blues top, keeping Byron of P3 at bay, who went down in an exciting 6-goal thriller against Talbot of P31, who are in 3rd place. It's gonna be a close finish in this group, as Cross End Utd have yet to get going and could do better next time. Group 20: Only 3 goals for Muckamore in their first 3 games, but they exploded into destructive form in their last match, hitting 5! As P1 are well aware, they hardly ever concede and it's that mean defence that's keeping them top here with maximum points. But if they have aspirations of become Apex Champions, they will need to sharpen up their striking capabilities, 'cos 1 goal may not be enough against the real big tough boys they will encounter later on. Gorgon are doing okay in 2nd place, but Burgh Rovers of P5 are working wonders once again and have 6 points. Remember, last season they ended up in the Semi-Finals, despite being a Div 2 team. Super Champs League pedigree! Group 21: P1 top here, as well, Dark Forces with 12 points without having to stretch themselves, but will need to play a lot better in the knockout stages. Buckfast Albion are 2nd and look set to qualify, as well. Greenham City of P21 will need to improve a lot if they're going to give Buckfast a run for their money, and poor Solent Athletic are struggling with just 2 points. Group 22: Witfield Albion from P47 are top with a mere 8 points in the closest group yet. Southill Town are in 5th, but could be top next time, so close is this group! Definitely all to play for yet, with 5 teams in with a strong shout of qualifying. Group 23: Biggest disappointment here is for Swanscombe Utd of P3, who are languishing in 3rd place with 6 points, but it could well change for them next time, 'cos they've already played 3 away games. Tudor and Nasty Dragons are the top 2, both with maximum points, and both hitting the net with good regularity, but they both have to visit Swanscombe and will need to come away with a point apiece to ensure they both qualify. Gosport Rovers were involved in a 7-goal thriller against the Dragons and are struggling in 4th place. Group 24: Barfelona of P1 have max points, but only just, with some narrow wins and 3 home games, but they will qualify, barring a disaster. Buckrose are in 2nd and 5 points clear of St Martins and Abuel. Top 2 to qualify with ease. Group 25: JL Allstars of P5 Div 2 are top with max points! And 5 points clear, as well! Super stuff from the Div 2 outfit, putting other bigger clubs to shame, especially Dunadry of P1 who have continued their poor form from P1 here, as well. Rowner Wanderers are 2nd and will probably qualify, unless Dunadry get their act together fast. Anfield Athletic from P3 are doing well taking their current situation in P3 into account. This is probably the weakest group, though. Group 26: Anfield Aces of P19 fame are strolling it with 12 points and not even breaking sweat. Yeovil Green of P5 started by losing to Anfield but gradually improved. They will have to watch out for both Newton Heath and Spartak County, though, who are breathing down their knecks. Spartak started in powerful fashion, but look as if they ran out of steam in their last 2 games, but they could be back after a rest next time. Avalanche FC, from P21, are the only Div 3 team in the Championships, and it shows, as they are bottom with only a point, but hurrah for them for being bold enough to enter and to knick a point, as well. Match reports and teamsheets will be depatched over the next few weeks and deadline for games 5-8 is TUE 18TH SEPTEMBER
